Application of microprocessors

The author reviews developments in microprocessors and microprocessor applications. A short history of microprocessors is given, together with some cost complexity trends in microelectronics. The basic structure of a microcomputer is then explained. Microprocessor applications are divided into two classes: (i) control and measurement applications and (ii) dataprocessing and communication applications; separate sections are devoted to the discussion of developments in each of these two classes.
