The phase trend of a transfer function (TF) has a nearly constant group delay in a reverberant sound field under high modal overlap conditions. This phase trend is robust and predictable from the reverberation time of a system. Inverse filtering for waveform recovery, however, is still a problem because of the nonminimum phase property of the TF. This paper proposes a method for source waveform recovery in a reverberant space. An impulsive source waveform can be recovered from a reverberant response by inverse filtering the minimum phase part of a reverberant TF. The minimum phase part is created by simply taking the absolute value of the group delay. The value of using exponential windowing waveform recovery is also discussed.
