A Comparison of Wavetable and FM Parameter Spaces

Andrew Horner · Computer Music Journal · 1997

This article shows the distribution of "good" parameters for trumpet, tenor voice, and Chinese pipa tones using wavetable, wavetable-indexing, wavetable-interpolation, group-additive, formant-FM, double-FM, and discrete-summation matching. The results give some clues why recent wavetable- and FM-matching investigations have been so successful, and establish some guidelines to help identify other potentially useful matching methods.
