Accessible methods for measuring the resonance properties of musical instruments
Edith L. R. Corliss · The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America · 1990
Increased availability of amplifiers that supply precise time delays for introducing “ambience” effects in music reproduction provides a useful resource for the study of musical instruments. The circuitry provides simultaneous comparison of two parts of a resonance decay separated by a precise time interval. From these data, logarithmic decrement may be measured. For single-frequency tones, the figure of merit “Q” at that frequency can be ascertained. Examples of the use of these processes will be shown.
