A new method is introduced, where bipolar binary values are directly expressed by the two levels of light intensity. An array of optoelectronic logic XNOR gates is used to execute the processing of vector-matrix products or inner-product correlation. Optical implementation of neural networks based on the Hopfield model is described as an example to show one of the possible applications of this novel method.
