Data processing in the wake of massive multi-core processors

Jim Kowalkowski · Journal of Physics Conference Series · 2014

Developments in concurrency (massive multi-core, GPU, and architectures such as ARM) are changing the physics computing landscape. This paper will describe the use of GPU and massive multi-core, and the changes that result from massive parallelization and the impact on data processing. Major HEP event-processing framework software runs within the changing computing environment. These frameworks have been evolving to accommodate the changes. The framework changes need to go quite a bit further, to better handle coprocessors with alternative architectures.
