Adaptive packet size concept for data interpolation in voice network

Pooja Tiwari, K.L. Sharma · International Journal of Electronics · 1989

In an efficient integrated communication network interpolating data during the silence periods of speech, the use of fixed packet length is far from optimum. The present paper introduces the concept of adaptive packet size for such situations. It is shown that by cutting down the requirement of header in each packet, and by interleaving the data with voice, the variable packet size concept is capable of further enhanced channel utilization. The aspects of micro-routing controlled through a central network manager along with those of node to node macro-routing have been used to yield best results. The paper includes an architectural block diagram for communication and flow control of data packets at a typical node of multihop integrated network.
