Incorporating software engineering techniques into a computer architecture course
Arlen N. Long, Sharilyn Ann Thoreson · 1986
This paper describes a computer architecture course which provided students with a thorough grounding in a non-vonNeumann computer architecture and also increased the understanding by the students of the size and complexity of the work which they will be doing after they accept an industrial position. The class presented the latest available research regarding dataflow computers and the students produced a software simulator of a generalized dataflow computer as a group project. By incorporating software engineering techniques into the computer architecture course, students with little or no knowledge of a different computer architecture both understood a new architecture and created a useful product.
