Modelling the permeability of textiles using mesh adaptatino

A. Giavaras, Andrew C. Long, Mike Clifford · AIP conference proceedings · 2012

We employ a fictitious domain approach to model the flow within the complicated structure of a unit cell of a textile. Hence, we avoid the cumbersome discretization step. However, the intricate details of the geometry are lost due to the embedding. We employ a simple jump error indicator to account for the steep variations in the velocity and implicitly the variations of the given geometry. The results show that the unit cell permeability converges at least as fast as when using fixed meshes while the computational cost reveals that the approach is also robust.
