Biometrics in retail

Biometric technology is increasingly becoming a part of our lives. And yet it largely remains confined to well-defined, special use cases in which the need for strong identity authentication is paramount. In various places in the world it is deployed for passports, for voting, for access to secure premises – in other words, for applications where identity plays a major function. It has yet to gain widespread acceptance in what might be considered more casual or quotidian areas of our activities. But there are signs this is changing, and one area in which we may soon see biometrics integrated into our everyday lives is in the retail sector.
