Pile-up corrections in the measurement of lifetimes

In lifetime and similar experiments is which the time interval is measured up to the first detected event, a pile-up error is introduced if subsequent events are neglected. The application of corrections at high data collection rates is discussed with reference to the second-order errors introduced by variations in the source intensity, which have not been considered previously, and coherence effects.
