Direct design of Chebyshev-type recursive digital filters

A method for the design of Chebyshev infinite impulse response (IIR) digital filters directly in the digital domain is given. This approach is easier to use than the bi-linear transformation, does not require pre-warping, and provides (in virtually all cases of practical interest) filters with significantly improved roll-off rates for comparable hardware cost. The extension to inverse-Chebyshev filters is also given.
