CYCLIC ACTIVITY IN INFORMATION PROCESSING SYSTEMS
M.C. Fairhurst · Journal of Cybernetics · 1977
The existence of repeating patterns of behavior—cyclic activity—is shown to be a fundamental property of both natural and artificial systems. It is shown how this concept may be utilized in the description of a variety of different systems. The implications of such an approach are shown to be significant, not purely as a theoretical exercise, but in the design of practical “cybernetic” machines. The universality of the technique is seen to provide a common focal point for a wide range of scientific disciplines.
