In this paper, we develop an IP‐surveillance platform using interactive camera‐handoff control, which is called IPS‐ICC. In addition to fundamental tele‐surveillance functions, emerging techniques of IPS‐ICC contain flexible surveillance description language, scalable video coding and data fusion. The proposed camera‐handoff control is designed to assist client applications in changing monitoring connections automatically when tracked object moves among multiple cameras in a large‐scale surveillance environment. According to experimental results, IPS‐ICC would be a feasible solution to provide more reliable and scalable surveillance services for the next‐generation IP surveillance system.
