Speech Synthesis with a Vocal Tract Synthesizer

B. Purves, K. Blackett, William J. Strong · The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America · 1970

Two different methods have been used to interpolate between steady-state configurations for an 18 section synthesizer for consonant-vowel-consonant utterances. One method requires continuity of area and rate of change of area at the steady values. The second method uses the steady values as inputs to a critically damped filter. Several different time constants have been used with both methods. Difficulties exist in synchronizing the subglottal pressure and vocal-cord tension with the tract area. Taped examples will be presented.
