The paper discusses two different strategies for 3D multiple prediction in Wide Azimuth Towed Streamer (WATS) data processing. A comparison is made between methods that make use of a zero-azimuth assumption, where multiples are generated for source and receiver pairs positioned along a line, and true-azimuth methods that honour the original source and receiver locations. Results from both methods are compared for a WATS synthetic data set, and for a WATS field data set. It is shown that true-azimuth methods are significantly better capable of predicting complex multiples, particularly for the larger cross-line offsets seen in wide-azimuth towed streamer data.
