Communication standards and their impact on the functional integration of protection and control

Communication standards are required to provide interoperability of intelligent electronic devices, IEDs, in substation automation systems, SAS. They influence the integration of protection and control, the engineering tools, and the architecture of the IED hard-and software. A product and system strategy for providing the existing and future communication standards is demonstrated.
