Imaging applications platform: concept to implementation

This paper describes a software system called the Imaging Applications Platform (IAP), which is designed to meet the visualization tasks of biomedical applications. The design decisions are explained, and the chosen architecture is described. The functionality of IAP is summarized and demonstrated with some example pipelines.
