Telecommunications service providers and network operators are moving to the recently adopted global third generation (3G) wireless standards in order to meet the emerging user demands and to provide new services. These systems need to support voice communications and also high-speed data and multimedia services. In addition, they need to allow subscribers to access several services at once, anytime and anywhere. Two such technologies that can respond to the needs discussed above are Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM). Another technology that we propose is Orthogonal Haar Wavelet Division Multiplexing(OHWDM). For OHWDM receiver, DWT and demodulation algorithms are implemented and for WCDMA, RAKE receiver is implemented. Wavelet transform is increasingly being used in analysis and detection of signals. In this article we discuss the concept of wavelets, different forms of wavelets, and their Fourier transforms. We have also discussed the comparative advantages of wavelet transforms over Fourier transforms in analyzing signals. In this study we try to present how discrete functions are represented in wavelet form, especially in the Haar wavelet representation.
