The Future is online onlyOver the last decade a strong shift from traditional journal print publication to online retrieval of science information could be observed.Today, it is estimated that more than 90% of our readers access Fortschritte der Physik -Progress of Physics (FdP) articles via PDFs document downloads and do not visit their institutional libraries to get a physical copy of the print version.Looking at the web usage for FdP there is a clear increase in download numbers over the last 5 years with an average annual growth rate of nearly 18%.In view of these developments, it has been decided to publish the regular journal content exclusively online from 2013, i.e. to cease the print publication. As online journal the number of published pages remains limited, articles are selected due to their scientific relevance and suitability for the journal and will be clustered in issues -virtual issues.Articles will be published as soon as possible after their acceptance in our Early View section. In addition, selected articles will be featured as Editors Choice on a regular base and published online open, i.e. accessible for all internet users.
