Three reasons to avoid the use clause
Geoffrey O. Mendal · ACM SIGAda Ada Letters · 1988
Ada's use clause is regarded by some as the nemesis of the language, and by others as the only reasonable mechanism of importing visibility from other program units. Many organizations have struggled with the problem of whether to allow their programmers to use the use clause. Often their decisions are based on erroneous, slanted, emotional, or political rationale. This paper shows by means of example why th e use clause should be avoided completely. It focuses solely on the technical aspects of systems which rely on the use clause.
