Dual band capable cognitive radio networks (CRNs) have the advantage of being able to fall back to the secondary frequency band when the primary user (PU) is active. We analyze the connectivity of dual band capable CRNs and show the effect of primary user activity, CRN node density and transmission range. We show that the dual band capability of CRNs makes them more robust to the PU activity. We propose two routing strategies, single frequency routing (SFR) and dual frequency routing (DFR). We show that DFR can outperform SFR in terms of connectivity and route finding probability.
