Multiple-domain analysis methods
Diane T. Rover, Abdul Waheed · 1993
The task of performance analysis is essential for debugging and optimizing program performance on a concurrent system. In this paper, we categorize conventional and advanced methods of analysis and present analysis domains. These include the spatial, temporal, event, and frequency domains. A domain focuses on a particular perspective of the problem, and synthesis of these perspectives yields a more global picture of program performance. The multiple-domain analysis approach extends this concept to include powerful visual and statistical analysis methods. To explore the capabilities in each domain, we use the AVS and Matlab tools. The approach is demonstrated via selected examples. The approach holds potential for modeling system behavior.
