We explore the relationships between imaging and geometric constructs,and show how an Object -Oriented approach imbues the system with considerable flexibility.1. IntroductionWith the enormous popularity of 3- dimensional imaging modalities in medicine (such as Computed Tomography(CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)) there has arisen a demand not only for the classical goals of imageprocessing (image enhancement, entity extraction etc.) but for a visualization tool which will permit the attendingclinicians to view the 3 -d data in terms of its innate 3- dimensional structure rather than as a collection of planarslices[1,2,3,4, 51.
