Fuzzy rule quantification and its applications in manufacturing systems1

Drawing on the basic ideas of soft computing, we propose a fuzzy rule quantification method. It describes decision factors by membership functions of corresponding fuzzy sets and decision-making rules by fuzzy logic operations. The rule-based inference engine can be easily embedded into other quantitative computation methods for solving complicated problems. The method has been combined with genetic algorithms for application to two optimization problems in manufacturing systems, resource allocation in the Fuzzy Due-Date Bargainer (FDDB) and partner selection for virtual enterprises. Satisfactory results have been achieved.
