Love waves in a nonhomogeneous internal stratum lying between two semi-infinite isotropic media

Abstract This paper studies the possibility of propagation of Love waves in a nonhomogeneous internal stratum of finite depth lying between two semi-infinite isotropic media in two different cases. In one case the rigidity and density vary as cosh 2 (z/lambda ) and in the other case as (1 + z/lambda ) 2 , where lambda is a constant and z is the depth measured from the common interface of the upper medium and the internal stratum.
