Abstract In the second part of this paper, some further refinements of a computational algorithm for optimum design are described. Results of an extensive numerical investigation are discussed. The numerical study is designed and criteria for comparing the performance of algorithms are developed. Various variations of the algorithmic parameters and procedures are evaluated. Using the procedures described in the paper, other algorithms and programs can be evaluated.
