Defining Molecular Targets for Drug Design: Synergism Between Academia and Industry
Andrew C. Chan · Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition · 2005
The approaches for drug target identification and validation have undergone revolutionary changes during the past decade. The advances of genomics, bioinformatics, proteomics, biomarkers and advances in animal models of disease have provided a greater number of tools for pre-clinical evaluation. I will provide an overview of the Genentech approach to pre-clinical evaluation and how academia and industry can interact in a synergistic manner to accelerate the slow process of drug discovery and to enhance basic and translational research.
