The sudden emergence of a “new” colonial Africa has inevitably changed and extended the role of the mass media in this (still-backward area. Against the background of a pastoral society being torn up by the roots, Professor Doob describes the nature and problems of the mass media in Central Africa as instruments of rapid acculturation.
