An online community for the deaf

Online communities are helpful with many advantages for the deaf who are not able to hear or hear hard as it is for hearing people. Deaf people use sign language which is a visual form of communication including the combination of hand shapes, orientation and movement of the hands and facial expressions instead of voice which is used in spoken languages for communication. Furthermore, it is shown that the reading skills of the majority of the deaf society are poor. It is not hard to believe that the deaf will face problems while surfing web pages and also other Internet facilities like chat systems, voice mails and Internet telephony. In this paper, an online community is proposed in which specific facilities and characteristics are considered via a design especially for the deaf.
