Abstract The luminance and chrominance video‐signal format is beneficially applied for editing broadcasting programs in a studio and for delivering those from broadcasters to end users. Recently, a new ITU‐R recommendation has been published for UHDTV baseband image format. Two types of video signal were proposed: constant vs. non‐constant luminance video signals. This study introduces in depth analysis results for these two different signals in the aspect of crosstalk characteristics and the preservation of the original luminance information. And the compression‐efficiency evaluation results are also given.
