Combinatorial Communications Modeling of Real-Time Tactical Engagement Adjudication Architectures
Robert J. Hall · 2006
Real-time engagement adjudication (RTEA) is a crucial core competence of future realistic military training and assessment systems, like the Army's one tactical engagement simulation system (OneTESS). It is made technically complex when the nodes of the distributed system are connected by mobile ad hoc wireless data networks that must operate in an extremely wide variety of terrain types and training scenarios. This paper describes three candidate distributed architectures for RTEA and gives the results of a comparative combinatorial modeling study. In this study, the total bandwidth load, the transmissions per node, and the engagement fidelity (reliability) are measured within simulations of operational scenarios motivated by anticipated future training needs. Lessons learned are discussed and the benefits of the approach are described
