Ada tools for component testing
Brian A. Wichmann · 1996
The report details the work undertaken and the results obtained from a small study into the support provided by Ada tools for component testing. The definition of component testing used is that in the current draft of the standard produced by the British Computer Society Specialist Group in Software Testing. Due to the modest resources available for the study, it was impractical to base any comparison upon actual use at NPL. Indeed, to gain enough experience of the tools to give the confidence one should have for major projects implies many months of intensive use. Hence the method adopted was to rely upon reports from heavy users. Of course, facts and objective evidence provided by the vendors is also valuable. The method used to produce the report was to write a detailed series of questions about the degree of support provided by a tool for both the process, and the test techniques. The vendors were expected to be a major source of answers to objective information and users provided subjective information. Both users and vendors were given an opportunity to comment on the parts of the report relevant to the tool they are concerned with. The responses have identified inconsistencies which have been resolved as far as possible. (3 pages)
