Beyond web search services

As AltaVista, Inktomi, and many smaller companies move from free Web search services into the enterprise software arena, developers face a very different set of requirements and infrastructure issues. At the recent World Wide Web conference in Hong Kong, IC staff editor Steve Woods caught up with Prabhakar Raghavan, vice president and chief technology officer at Verity, which has been developing infrastructure software for enterprise portals since 1988. The following conversation provides an “insider’s” look at some of the big challenges.
