Abstract Approximated transfer functions are developed for variable equalizers to compensate for wideband signal attenuation distortion or for large attenuation distortion in the relative variation width of amplitude characteristics in communication systems. A method is presented for approximately expressing a variable transmission characteristic in the form of a 2‐variable minimum realizable rational transfer function which contains only variable parameters in the denominator. Next, actual approximated transfer functions are given for several specified equalization bands, equalization variable bands for variable parameters and various network orders. Analysis is made of the equalization errors of those variable transfer functions, verifying the effectiveness of this technique.
