Adaptive downsampling in high order Oversampled Filter Banks
Mohsen Akbari, Fabrice Labeau · 2012
In this paper, in the context of Joint Source-Channel Coding (JSCC), we investigate the idea of adaptive downsampling in Oversampled Filter Banks (OFBs) with polyphase matrix degree greater than zero. By adaptively changing the downsampling rate, we can control the injected redundancy in the sub-band signals. Thus, we can modify the level of signal protection based on the importance of different parts of the signal or variations in the condition of the channel. This can be used in protection of Region of Interests (ROI) in image/video coding and can also be considered as some form of puncturing. Here, using time-domain analysis, we will provide sufficient conditions on OFB structure to perfectly reconstruct the output. Finally, using OFB design examples, we provide some simulations which further reveal the potential applications of this method.
