Licensed to…Well, to What? And, by Whom?

Since commerce first became organized, how to evaluate both the competence and the trustworthiness of potential and current employees has been a problem and a considerable concern for companies. As the set of tasks the employee is required to perform becomes more complex, and the more divergent those tasks are from the day-to-day business of the wider organization, the problem is exacerbated. It becomes more difficult both to determine competence and to detect violations of trust. Information security is a very complex arena of endeavour and is rarely — specialist consultancies excepted — near the core of the employing organization’s business.
