A crisis in the unified modeling language: Facts, reasons, and ways to overcome it

Facts that describe the crisis in the Unified Modeling Language (UML) and the factors that caused it are given. A mathematical basis and illustrative schemes of the theory of modular systems that may help find ways out of the UML crisis are considered. Three suggestions on how to overcome the crisis in UML development are given.
