Frequency domain synthesis of a class of optimum recursive digital filters

A method for an iterative computer-aided design of a class of cascaded digital recursive filters, having specifications in the frequency domain of magnitude and/or phase, is described. The method uses an unconstrained Fletcher-Powell algorithm to minimize a weighted squared magnitude plus phase criterion.
