La linguistique au contact de l'informatique : de la construction des grammaires aux grammaires de construction
Marcel Cori, Jean-Marie Marandin · Histoire Épistémologie Langage · 2001
abstract : This article presents an essay on the rational history of one of the aspects of the generative programme in its relationship to computer science : that which starts with Chomsky's definition of the notion of grammar — and more specifically, with the mathematical characterization of possible grammars (algebraic linguistics) — and goes as far as the multidimensional grammars, whose formal basis is to be found in knowledge representation systems. The authors distinguish three stages : (a) the emerging of the generative programme and of the notion of generative grammar ; (b) the reform movement which cristallizes in the refusal of a transformational form of grammar and which witnesses the creation of numerous new formalisms which will all be declarative ; (c) the development of multidimensional grammars, whose task is to integrate the analyses of the formal dimensions (syntax and phononology) and of the non-formal ones (semantics, pragmatics) of languages.
