Influence of environment on the convergence of a learning game-playing machine

D.J. Quarmby · Electronics Letters · 1968

A ‘perceptron-like’ adaptive controller playing the game of ‘nim’ has been studied. The machine learns with no example (teacher) to guide it. Performance is related to the machine's environment (opponent), and a symmetrical arrangement of two learning machines in competition is shown to lead to rapid learning.
