An approach for designing a real-time intelligent distributed surveillance system

M. Valera · 2003

One reason for using MASCOT as a methodology for designing, distributed real-time surveillance systems is that MASCOT is based on the approach of real-time networks, in which the key of the design is the distribution of processes that make up the system and the interconnection through explicit identifiers, IDAs. Another reason is that MASCOT brings the possibility to use certain communication protocols. These protocols permit asynchronous communication, which avoids the tight interlocked timing relationships implicit in synchronous communication. Asynchronous communication also reduces the risk of deadlock and severe performance degradation at run time., which in systems such as a distributed real-time visual surveillance system may be important to avoid. The next step in this work, after establishing the theoretical basis for designing a distributed vision system, is to design a prototype for a distributed time surveillance system using MASCOT, that will be used for testing and verification at the design.
