Automatic parameter optimization as applied to transducer design

It was desired to design a transducer array consisting of a circular piston source with three concentric rings in the same plane and having the same center. The rings were to be adjusted in diameter and source strength to increase the directivity of the piston by narrowing the main beam and reducing the level of the minor lobes.
