The Metrobridge—an application of transputers in transparent bridging

Abstract This paper describes the Metrobridge project—a distributed switch for connecting PC cards via a high‐speed backbone network. The paper outlines the communication and management functions that are provided, and describes the hardware and software modules that make up the system. Finally, the advantages and disadvantages of using the transputer are discussed.
