Digital Camera for Acoustic Applications
L. A. Lopes, O. F. Thomas · The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America · 1969
We present a method for constructing a camera by using a digital computer to process the output of an array of hydrophones. The theoretical foundations of the system are presented, being nothing more than a new way of using established acoustic theory. The 1108 computer at NUWC has been programmed to simulate an acoustic field, and the digital camera has been used to form images of the simulated acoustic objects. The details of the program, and the pictures formed by the digital camera, are presented. Some of the details of a proposed first model of the camera are presented and the need for acoustic research is explored.
