An electrical indicator for a mercury U-tube manometer
Anna E. Hawkins · Journal of Scientific Instruments · 1956
The metal limbs of a U-tube act as outer conductors of two cylindrical capacitors. The tubes are coated internally with a thin layer of a dielectric material. The mercury acts as a variable inner conductor. The system can be made very sensitive and has a general scatter of less than ±1 mm of mercury.
