Simple Scalable Video Compression Using 3-D Subband Coding
William E. Glenn, John W. Marcinka, Robert Dhein · SMPTE Journal · 1996
Three-dimensional (3-D) subband coding as a video compression system is particularly well suited for use where inexpensive, simple encoders are needed. Program production or teleconferencing are good examples. Since the system uses octave-width bands, it is inherently scalable. Real-time programmable hardware has been built to process video at various bit rates using this technique, and the results of these tests are discussed.
