In this paper it is shown that the Gibbs phenomenon occurs in the finite series expansion series of the Daubechies wavelet. Based on this property we discuss a compensation method for signals with missed observations without any prediction procedure. The proposed method is able to detect transition points between the normal and missed states. A filter is proposed which detects whether a signal is in the normal state or missed state, compensates the missed part, reduces the noise, and outputs the filtered signal with constant delay. By simulation, the appropriateness and effectiveness of the proposed filter are shown. © 1998 Scripta Technica. Electron Comm Jpn Pt 3, 81(5): 1–11, 1998
