Fast Clear Single Underwater Image
Yan Wang, Bo Wu · 2010
In underwater situations, clarify of images are degraded by light absorption and scattering. In order to restore the original clarity of the images underwater, we analyze the physical effects of visibility degradation, and present an algorithm which inverts the image formation process. In this paper, we consider the visibility restoration from a single underwater image as a particular filtering problem and use median filter to infer water veil. The main advantage of the proposed algorithm is its speed: its complexity is a linear function of the number of image pixels only. This speed allows visibility restoration to be applied within real-time processing applications. In this way, the effect of turbid water can be removed and the original clarity of images can be unveiled.
