ATLAS: COMPUTERISED SECOND LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY TESTING
Katrien Troubleyn, Kathleen Heireman, Ann van Walle · Computer Assisted Language Learning · 1996
During the development of the ATLAS (Adaptive Testing of Linguistic Achievement Significance) test, used to evaluate second language proficiency of Belgian civil servants, we encountered various problems caused by the complexity of language itself, the difference in background of the candidates and the absence of official objective test criteria. When dealing with these problems, we had to replace the adaptive model by a representative one. At the moment, the first six modules of ATLAS are successfully used, while (multimedia) modules 7, 8 and 9 are in progress.
